Heat Sealed Shirts vs Basesuit Shirts

heat sealed logo on shirt

Merchandising for Personal Trainers and Gyms is a big part of advertising a brand as well as getting an extra income source into the business without doing an extra hour of training but what is the best option for merchandise?  We break down and look at the difference between Budget garments, Brand Name shirts and the Basesuit offerings to see what works best.

For those unfamiliar, heat sealing is putting on a lyno logo or badge on the garment with heat – think names and numbers on footy jerseys or how they put the sponsors on jerseys in the old days.

To do this we asked well renowned Personal Trainer, Paul Nichols of PT Paul to test the garments and see what he thinks.  We got him to rate them on 5 factors: comfort, customizability, production time, price and resale value.

These are his results

Comfort

Budget

The Budget item is what you’d expect its nice enough but lacks the finish of the others.  The fabric breaths well but is heavier than the others.  The big issue is the heatseal on the front and back make it uncomfortable.  It is a sweat magnet.

Score 5

Brand

The Brand Named garment is really comfortable but like the other heatsealed shirt the application of the logos undo all the good stuff you pay for in the brand name shirt.  The breathability is affected and its sweaty.

Score 9

Basesuit Club

A really comfortable shirt and the fabric is really nice and breaths well.  Its surprisingly soft and there is no issues with hot areas as the logos are all printed into the shirt.

Score 8

Basesuit Pro

The Pro shirt is lighter and even softer than the Club shirt.  Its cut is the same and just as comfortable and like the Club version doesn’t have any issues with applications causing sweat and rubbing.

Score 9

Customisability

Budget

Colours are unlimited with heat sealing but the size is limited.  You can’t put applications everywhere its just not practical financially as well as comfort wise.  The other issue is these shirts are really common so its hard to stand out and make it your own with just putting a logo on the front and back.

Score 6

Brand

The same as the budget garment, the Brand name shirt struggles because you can’t put too many heatseals on them.  These shirts aren’t used a lot in a team environment or for merchandising so they stand out better but at the same time you can tell it’s a brand shirt regardless of what you do.

Score 6.5

Basesuit Club

The Basesuit Club shirt is great, because of the sublimation we can do amazing designs right across the shirt so it looks like something different to everything out there.

Score 9.5

Basesuit Pro

The Pro is even better than the club, you can get more detail because of the finer fabric and the pro allows for branding on the inside of the garment.  I can get my logo in the collar so it looks like its my brand not just a brand name shirt I’ve added stuff to.  Very cool! Score 10

Budget

The heatsealed item is the cheapest but the quality is also the cheapest.

Score      8

Brand

The brand shirt is good value at $50 however its not as comfortable.

Score      6

Basesuit Club

The Club shirt is great value considering the comfortability.

The Pro shirt is great value considering the comfortability

Resale Value

Budget

At $35 each its about all I could charge a client to buy one so that means I can get my brand out there but I am also risk managing the whole thing.  If I get left with stock its at my cost.

Score 6

Brand

The finish of the brand shirt is good and at $50 I could sell them but again I doubt I could get much more for them.  My clients are all wearing these same shirts but adding the big applications on the front and back does devalue them in comfort terms.

Score 6

Basesuit Club

The Club shirt is great, my clients are spending over $50 on their gear now so with this garment I can sell it to them knowing they are going to be happy with it and push my brand and I can make some money!

Score 8.5

Basesuit Pro

This is a great one, the Pro is up there with the brand names as far as finish and comfort but its got my awesome designs all over it which is cool.  Retailing these anywhere from $55 up wouldn’t be an issue and like the club I can give something different to my clients and generate another income stream!

Personally I prefer the Basesuit gear simply for 2 reasons; comfort and design.  Cost wise they are in the middle but the fact my gear can look completely different to the stuff you see in sports stores and every other gym in the country excites me.  Going with this is the gear is good! Its really good, I think its up there with the name brands for comfort.

I recommend Basesuit if you can fit it in your budget the numbers stack up and I certainly like it!
